The McGhee Foundation Presents Andrew McKnight and Beyond Borders, October 2, 2009 – September 1, 2009 (Rescheduled from earlier date)
The McGhee Foundation is proud to host Andrew McKnight and Beyond Borders for a night of heart-warming and thought-provoking music.
Aptly described as "beyond Appalachian, beyond blues, beyond folk", Andrew McKnight & Beyond Borders' sweet vocal blend and tight delivery inspires enthusiastic audience responses at festivals and concerts. The environmental-engineer-turned nationally touring artist's masterfully crafted songs and stories are heartfelt and intelligent, touching on themes from history, environmental issues, and rural Virginia and American life.
Comprised of original Nitty Gritty Dirt Band member and 2-time Grammy nominee Les Thompson, his wife Stephanie Thompson, and award-winning singer/songwriter Lisa Taylor, the band blends Andrew's charming tenor voice and acoustic and electric guitars with upright bass, drums, banjo, and percussion to create "a vast expanse of song and sound".
These four seasoned musicians and consummate professionals have joined forces to bring an exciting, unique and dynamic musical presentation to the stage. Their individual creative and musical talents, couple with a genuine fondness for each other, show in their warmth and comfort on and off stage.
Tickets are $20 in advance for adults, with free admission for children under 12; reservations are required. To purchase tickets, please contact Sandy Danielson, Director of Community Relations and Events, at (540) 687-3743 or sdanielson@farmersdelight.org.
Grilled burgers and sausages from Fields of Athenry Farm as well as wine from Corcoran Vineyards will be available for purchase onsite.

The McGhee Foundation and The Community Music School of the Piedmont announce scholarship winner – February 1, 2009
The McGhee Foundation and The Community Music School of the Piedmont would like to congratulate Maggie Collins, winner of the 1st Annual McGhee Foundation Music Scholarship. Miss Collins studies viola at the Community Music School of the Piedmont and attends ninth grade at Fauquier High School. She lives in Upperville, VA.
"Music is a great passion of mine. I have all hope that I will one day play with great people," says Miss Collins, who performs with the Fauquier High School Chamber Orchestra, the Shenandoah Valley Youth Orchestra and the Shenandoah Valley Chamber Orchestra.
"We are proud to support the education of our young local musicians," says McGhee Foundation Executive Director Richard Berger. Students between the ages of 10 and 18 with at least one year of private music instruction were invited to apply for the scholarship, which will cover tuition for one semester’s worth of private lessons at CMSP. Candidates submitted a 500-word essay highlighting the role of music in their lives and why they considered musical study to be an important and valuable activity.
The McGhee Foundation and Guests "Celebrate Local!" at Second Annual Benefit Gala – October 25, 2008
Celebrate Local! was the theme of the Second Annual Benefit Gala held at Farmer’s Delight on Saturday, October 25. The deluge of rain ended in the nick of time to welcome our guests to an evening filled with old and new friends!
Fine fare from Ayrshire Farm, Endless Summer Harvest, Mom’s Apple Pie, Oak Spring Dairy, Vineyard Nursery and Farmer’s Delight were beautifully prepared by Tutti Perricone and her staff from Back Street Catering in Middleburg. Corcoran Vineyards (Waterford) once again provided their award winning wines throughout the evening. Instructors from the Community Music School of the Piedmont (Upperville) provided lovely string selections on the upper terrace before and after dinner, and the Intrepid Jazz Quartet, led by Ed St. John of the Music school, played on the lower terrace during dinner.
The local business community generously supplied a distinctive collection of items for our Silent Auction and Clyde Lamond, auctioneer extraordinaire, provided lively banter as he auctioned a couple of special offerings to the crowd. Don Hawkins, Cindy Elliott, Michele Tourney, Peter Deahl, Donna Williamson, Bridget Chisholm and Doug Marr were on hand to discuss the diverse components of the Manor House and property, and tours of the renovated North Wing with commentary by renovation specialist Matt Dehne were a highlight for many. Local author Audrey Windsor Bergner was also on hand signing her most recent book, Old Plantations and Places around Middleburg.
The McGhee Foundation would like to express its gratitude to our Honorary Co-Chairs — Sandy Lerner of Ayrshire Farm and Chris Miller of the Piedmont Environmental Council — and to say a big "thank you" to our sponsors — Ayrshire Farm, BOWA Builders, Corcoran Vineyard, Robin Gabardy, ING, J & H Market, Mom’s Apple Pie Company, and Oak Spring Dairy — and also to our many contributors.
Needless to say, the evening was very special. We were so pleased with response from the community!
